Hamas proudly shows off its new tank, just one small problem

The Palestinian political organization Hamas proudly displayed a captured and rebuilt Israeli tank on social media Monday, but users were quick to point out that there was something fishy about this tank. For one, it seemed to be made out of wood. What’s more, it was rolling around on wheels rather than treads.

The militant wing of Hamas, the Izz ad-Din Al-Qassam Brigades, rolled out their ‘tank’ at a memorial service for seven members killed when a tunnel collapsed in Gaza. A spokesperson for the group claimed the tank was captured Israeli hardware.

“The Tufah neighborhood has a long history with enemy tanks and therefore we’re preparing for the day we shall meet those tanks,” a speaker at the service said, according to RT.com. However, the Israeli prime minister’s spokesperson for Arab media, Ofir Gendelman, couldn’t help but snicker on social media at the ‘tank’.

Indeed, the tank’s treads don’t touch the ground, implying that another vehicle is underneath the body. Social media then blew up with people poking fun at the slipshod tank job. To save face, Al-Qassam Brigades quickly tweeted that the model used in the memorial service was merely a ‘simulation’ of a tank. That’s quite a downgrade going from rebuilt Israeli death machine to mere parade float.
