S.C. student gets patent, invents pool toy

One young man’s problem in the pool turned into a patented invention, with a little help from mom and dad.

Davis Bartow was playing in the pool with his father when he was three years old.

He was having trouble making his pool noodles stay together while trying to make a raft for his dog to float on.

After sketching out some ideas and carving the noodles with a knife, the Bartow family was able to create “Link’ems”, a foam floating toy that could attach and stick together.

Davis and his father went to the US Patent and Trademark Office and made their idea official so other kids could enjoy the pool toy too.

The invention also helped Bartow get into the Tech Club at his school Bob Jones Academy.

Assistant Principal Jenny Clipp said Davis was a role model for other students because he put his wish to action and created something that would benefit others.

The toy is sold in stores all over the US and Canada including BI-LO, Walmart, Walgreens and Dicks Sporting Goods.
