The victim told Niagara County Sheriff’s deputies she received a telephone call April 27 from someone claiming to represent a company that had performed a “remote analysis” of her computer, uncovering several problems that needed to be fixed. She was directed to send a $1,000 money order to an address in China.

Several days later, she was contacted by the same person, who advised her to send $2,000 to an address in Michigan, deputies said.

The victim told investigators she was unsure if she had any problem with her computer – or if she received any repair services.
